The 2020 ERCOT 4CP Season, which ended on the last day of September, witnessed a new monthly record for
July and the August peak fell just short of a new record demand in ERCOT.

On Monday, July 13, ERCOT established a record for July peak demand with a measurement of 74,392 MW’s,
but with ample wind output available prices remained muted and the ERCOT grid was up to the task.

In mid-August the system was tested again when peak demand eclipsed 74,420 MW’s, a little over 200 MW’s
shy of a new all-time record. Intraday prices on that day remained stable as many users reduced consumption
during evening hours to help keep the lights on. In the following weekend, as wind tapered off but the heat
remained prices spiked to over a thousand dollars per MWH. Despite it not being a monthly record demand
day, the reduction in wind generation caused a surge in expensive fast ramping generation and reserves to
meet demand
