Stamford, Connecticut, April 6, 2022 – Tradition Energy announces that it recently advised Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) on energy risk management and procurement, resulting in a 41 percent reduction in the district’s natural gas costs. Hillsborough County, which encompasses Tampa, is the fourth most populous county in Florida, with over 1.5 million people, and with 237 schools and more than 182,000 students, HCPS is the sixth-largest school district in the United States. Hillsborough County took advantage of Tradition’s cooperative purchasing contract available through OMNIA Partners, Public Sector, to eliminate additional time and expense on its procurement process.

HCPS previously procured its natural gas supply through the State of Florida’s Department of Management Services. With its energy contract managed by the State, Hillsborough did not have the market transparency or understanding of how its natural gas rates were being determined or that several products options existed that could provide budget certainty and reduce costs. By purchasing independently of the State, and utilizing its OMNIA Partners, Public Sector, cooperative contract, Hillsborough gained access to Tradition’s services and competitive fees and saved more than $540,000.
