Bob Wooten Speaks on Energy Procurement To NIGP Members

HOUSTON, TX, November 15, 2012 — Bob Wooten, Director of Government Accounts at Tradition Energy, was the featured speaker for the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing (NIGP) webinar titled, “Changing Attitudes Towards the Procurement of Energy.” The webinar was part of an ongoing series of NIGP purchasing-focused presentations directed to their more than 5,000 members in the US.

The webinar highlighted the results of the most recent NIGP energy survey issued in October 2012 in collaboration with Tradition Energy (the first such survey was released in 2010), which was designed to gain a better understanding of how governmental entities approach energy procurement. In particular, the survey was intended to learn more about the existing understanding of opportunities for competitive supply of energy commodities, and to gain a deeper insight on existing policies, procedures, and attitudes towards the procurement of electricity, natural gas, and transportation fuel.

“In general, the findings indicated several important areas that all governments should be aware of in order to maximize cost reductions,” said Mr. Wooten. “Included in the findings was a shift in governments beginning the procurement planning process more than 12 months before contract expirations, as well as the use of professional consulting firms to assist with the procurement.”
