Annual Green Power Purchase Lands TCCD 25th Among Colleges & Universities
Stamford, Connecticut, August 3, 2021 – Tradition Energy, the nation’s largest and most experienced independent energy risk management and sustainability advisor, is proud to congratulate its long-time client Tarrant County College District (TCCD) for joining the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Green Power Partnership (GPP) Top 30 College & University list. The Top 30 ranking of colleges and universities comprise the largest GPP purchasers of green power in the United States.
The EPA established the Green Power Partnership in 2001 as a voluntary program that encourages organizations to use green power to reduce the environmental impacts associated with conventional electricity use. At the end of the calendar year 2020, more than 700 Partner organizations were voluntarily using billions of kilowatt-hours of green power annually.
Serving more than 100,000 students each year, Tarrant County College is one of the 20-largest higher education institutions in the U.S. The more than 57 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of green power used and purchased annually by TCCD meets the GPP’s standard of 100% electricity use. TCCD’s kWh is equal to the electricity used annually in more than 5,365 average American homes, 168,030,429 miles driven by electric cars, 8 wind turbines running for one year, or 44 football fields of solar panels for one year.
“We are proud to be TCCD’s energy risk management advisor,” said Alan Kurzer, CEO, Tradition Energy. “Since 2010, Tradition has helped procure a variety of green and renewable energy for TCCD in order to meet its sustainability goals. The District’s commitment to purchasing green power benefits the industry, the environment, protects human health, and is just plain good for business.”
