The opportunity

Legends Global engaged Tradition Energy to evaluate natural gas costs and identify potential savings at Southern New Hampshire University Arena.

Legends Global is a live events and venue management company formed through the acquisition of ASM Global, an existing Tradition Energy client. As part of the relationship, Legends sought Tradition’s expertise to assess energy expenses at Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) Arena.

At the time, the Arena was purchasing natural gas through a third-party supplier based on guidance from its existing broker. Tradition was asked to independently evaluate the arrangement, benchmark current and renewal pricing, and determine whether a more cost-effective supply option was available.

Analysis

Tradition reviewed SNHU Arena’s natural gas invoices, billed rates, and available renewal offers to determine whether third-party supply remained competitive. The analysis revealed a significant pricing advantage available through the local utility.

SNHU Arena had previously been advised to move away from local utility supply in favor of a third-party natural gas agreement. Tradition analyzed the Arena’s actual billed rates to determine how that strategy was performing under current market conditions.

Tradition compared the supplier’s renewal offers against the local utility’s standard rate and found the utility option was substantially less expensive. Renewing with the third-party supplier would have continued to expose the Arena to unnecessarily higher costs.

The analysis demonstrated the magnitude of the pricing difference. In May 2025 alone, SNHU Arena could have achieved savings approximately 10 times greater by remaining on utility supply, highlighting a clear opportunity to change its procurement approach.

The Result:
Immediate Savings, Broader Opportunity

Zero-Cost Savings Identified

A straightforward review of SNHU Arena’s invoices uncovered significant cost-reduction potential without requiring upfront investment or operational changes.

Lower-Cost Utility Supply

Based on Tradition’s analysis, Legends Global can reduce natural gas expenses by transitioning SNHU Arena away from higher-priced third-party supply and back to the local utility.

Portfolio-Wide Cost Review

The findings at SNHU Arena prompted Tradition to evaluate Legends Global’s broader portfolio for similar pricing inefficiencies and additional energy cost-saving opportunities.
