The opportunity

Tarrant County College District sought a scalable energy strategy to manage growing demand while controlling costs across its expanding campus network.

One of the 20 largest community colleges in the U.S., Tarrant County College District (TCCD) began working with Tradition Energy in 2011. With six campuses and more than 50,000 students, the college’s energy requirements continued to increase alongside its growing operations.

TCCD needed an experienced advisor to manage its evolving electricity and natural gas needs while providing greater visibility into costs and future budgets. Tradition worked with the college to develop a comprehensive energy strategy designed to support continued growth while identifying opportunities to reduce costs and manage market risk.

Drawing on its experience managing diverse accounts across multiple energy markets, Tradition developed a strategy to aggregate eligible sites within each market. Combining demand increased purchasing leverage and created a stronger position when soliciting competitive supplier pricing.

Tradition established a vetted pool of qualified energy suppliers willing to meet TCCD’s specific contractual requirements, including provisions required by government entities. This approach increased competition while ensuring potential suppliers could satisfy the college’s procurement standards.
