Webinar: Status of Energy Market Deregulation: Developments and Opportunities

It’s been nearly 20 years since the first U.S. state deregulated its electricity market, thus breaking up the vertical utility monopoly structure and creating competition among energy suppliers. For end users, “energy choice” has provided new electricity product options, flexible terms and for the largest purchasers, negotiable contracts. Today, almost every state has open natural gas deregulation and 14 have electricity competition. However, not all deregulated markets were created equal and the status of deregulation is constantly changing. Staying on top of these changes in order to maximize procurement opportunities is a constant challenge for firms with facilities in multiple markets. In fact, unless you have a full staff dedicated to energy procurement, it’s practically impossible.
